An Edmond teen was charged Wednesday with two counts of felony cruelty to animals.
Christopher Jameson,19, is accused of killing several animals in a northwest Oklahoma City pet store in July. Police said they found a parakeet with its neck snapped, a rabbit that had been smothered, and a hamster that had been stomped to death in the store's parking lot.
"We can’t confirm exactly how these animals died at this point and time, but looking at them, looking at the pictures, it's obvious they probably suffered a traumatic death and that’s very sad for these animals,” said Crystal Slocum with Oklahoma City Animal Welfare.
Police began circulating images of a man and woman, initially believed also to have been responsible, in hopes the public could identify them. However, according to an affidavit, the woman in the image contacted Oklahoma City Police and said she was unaware any animals were killed until she saw the post. She said it wasn't until she and Christopher Jameson left the store that she realized Jameson had stolen a guinea pig and hamster.
The woman said Jameson instructed her to drive to Mitch Park in Edmond. She said after going into separate bathrooms to wash the animals off, Jameson returned to her car with the guinea pig but "it was not moving."
She said Jameson insisted on burying the animal. She said he returned to the bathroom, took a video, and told her "the bathroom was covered in blood and showed her the video."
Police said surveillance video showed Jameson walking back and forth.
According to documents, a cleaning crew later found "entrails splattered all over the walls and floor of the men's bathroom."
"The body of a deceased guinea pig," was also found nearby, court documents said.
Jameson is also charged with one count of misdemeanor larceny.
