Pilot Of Aircraft Involved In Oklahoma City Crash Identified By Family

A man who was piloting an aircraft that crashed in Oklahoma City Sunday afternoon has been identified by members of his family.

Family members of Dr. Richard Stanford, an Oklahoma City pediatrician, said he was in control of the aircraft when it came down near Interstate 235 and Northwest 63rd Street at around 1:00 p.m.

Relatives of Stanford said he has been responsive to the family while hospitalized, however, he has multiple serious injuries.

What happened when the plane crashed?

According to the Oklahoma City Fire Department, when Stanford's plane came down, the aircraft struck nearby power lines and started a fire, which was later extinguished.

The damage to power lines caused a minor power outage that affected roughly 250 people in the area.

Where is the aircraft now?

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the wreckage of the aircraft is still near the I-235 ramp to Interstate 44, where it crashed. The I-235 ramp to I-44 eastbound has since reopened, but the ramp to I-44 westbound still remains closed.

OHP has not said when they plan to clear the wreckage, but the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the crash.
