The Stillwater girls’ softball team is off and running with their new season. However, the team’s season didn’t start off like they hoped. Families had to spend their weekend fixing the team’s locker room after people discovered vandalism.

At Stillwater Public Schools, parents like Hunter Parker believe the Pioneers will have a picture-perfect season.

“It’s good,” said Parker, who came to watch his daughter Allie play. “The weather’s nice today so that really helps. Yeah, we’re excited about the season.”

The team didn’t get off to its best start this season and it had nothing to do with their performance on the field Stillwater

Public Schools spokesman Barry Fuxa didn’t expect the team to face vandalism inside the team’s locker room.

“Unfortunately, we had this little incident over the weekend,” Fuxa said. “Broke out a couple of windows; kicked in the door. Kinda broke that jam.”

Fuxa said vandalism strikes a nerve.

“Anytime someone comes in and violates your space, it’s not a good feeling,” he said.

The school could use assistance to find out who is responsible. Fuxa said people should call the Stillwater Police Department if they know any information.

“It’s probably some kids out causing trouble,” Parker said.

Parents showed up over the weekend to keep the season on schedule.

“By the time I learned about it, it had already been cleaned up and taken care of,” Fuxa said.

Stillwater Public Schools believes in the community’s ability to bounce back.

“We’ve got a great team,” Fuxa said. “Can’t wait to see how far they go this year.”
