Former President Trump Has 10 Days To Surrender In Georgia, Indicted For Alleged Fraudulent Election Loss Reversal

Former President Donald Trump has until Friday, Aug. 25 to voluntarily surrender to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia, where he was indicted Monday, his fourth criminal indictment in five months.

The charges against the 2024 GOP front-runner and more than a dozen others relate to their alleged efforts to fraudulently reverse Trump's 2020 election loss to Joe Biden in Georgia.

This is the second indictment tied to the actions Trump allegedly took to try and unlawfully hold onto the presidency. The charges brought two weeks ago in federal court in Washington by Special Counsel Jack Smith center on an alleged Trump-led conspiracy to prevent Biden's electoral college win from being certified.

The Georgia case focuses more specifically on the alleged efforts of Trump and his allies to change the result of the vote there in his favor, stemming from the ex-president's now-infamous phone conversation with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger:

"I just want to find the 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have," Trump told Raffensperger in the Jan. 2, 2021, phone call, which was recorded and later provided to the press.

That call -- and the pressure Trump seemed to be trying to apply to Georgia election officials -- got the attention of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, whose resulting two-and-a-half year investigation culminated Monday night with a grand jury handing up a nearly 100-page indictment of the former president and his allies.

"The defendants engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise," Willis said in news conference, "to overturn Georgia's presidential election result."

In total, the indictment charges 19 defendants with 41 different criminal counts. In addition to Trump, others facing prosecution include Trump's former personal attorney Rudy Guiliani, Trump's former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and attorney Sidney Powell.

All face at least one count of violating Georgia's RICO (racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations) statute. Trump is also charged with soliciting a public official to violate his/her oath of office, false statements and writings, along with several conspiracy charges.

Georgia's Republican ex-lieutenant governor was among those who testified before the grand jury and told reporters the case is legitimate.

"My hope is that Americans believe us," Geoff Duncan said. "My hope is that Republicans believe us, that this election was fair and legal."

Donald Trump has said all along he did nothing wrong and called this latest indictment a politically motivated "witch hunt."

Oklahoma Congressman Josh Brecheen agrees.

"It is clear to anyone who is paying attention," Brecheen (R-OK2) said on social media, "that these indictments are a politically calculated distraction and an attempt by Democrats to interfere in the 2024 Election.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, there had been no statements from any other members of the Oklahoma delegation on this indictment.
