After a foggy start to the day, sunshine and warmer temperatures are on the horizon for Oklahoma. Meteorologist Megan Gold says highs will climb into the 60s today and tomorrow, but a cold front later this week will bring cooler weather, with highs dropping back to the 40s and 50s.

After starting the day under dense fog advisories, Oklahomans can look forward to sunshine and warmer temperatures this afternoon. Highs are expected to reach 64°F today, offering a chance to enjoy outdoor activities. Meteorologist Megan Gold recommends walking the dog, having lunch outside, or simply soaking up the sun before cooler weather returns later in the week.
Visibility was less than a quarter mile in many areas early in the morning, with dense fog advisories in effect until 9 a.m. Light winds contributed to the lingering fog, which is expected to dissipate as the sun rises. Drivers should use caution this morning.
Tuesday will bring more warmth with highs climbing to 65°F. However, gusty south winds, reaching speeds of 20 to 30 mph, will signal the arrival of a cold front later in the day. Once the front passes, temperatures will drop, with highs falling into the 40s for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Overnight temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 30s by midnight on New Year’s Eve, making it a chilly but manageable evening for holiday celebrations.
Looking ahead, another cold front later this week will bring a significant drop in temperatures. Forecasters are monitoring the potential for Arctic air to arrive next week, which could bring the coldest weather of the season. Highs may struggle to climb out of the 20s during that period.

A big warming trend is on the way as we reach the final days of the year, but we still have some more gloomy weather to get through first!
Overcast conditions will take back over Friday night into Saturday morning as our next fast-moving storm system strengthens over the Southern Plains. And surprise, surprise: Foggy conditions may once again be an issue across eastern Oklahoma early Saturday morning. Widely scattered showers will break back out during the day Saturday as an area of low pressure strengthens across eastern Oklahoma. We may have to watch for one or two strong storms in far southeastern Oklahoma, but a much higher severe weather threat will unfold outside of our viewing area in the southeastern United States.
A Sunny Sunday and Warming Trend
Sunday looks like the long-awaited pay-off for us having to endure several cloudy, dreary days! Sunshine returns on Sunday and temperatures will warm nicely into the mid-60s. And as south winds ramp up on Monday, the warming trend really crescendos as highs soar into the upper 60s!
A Chilly New Year’s Forecast
After that, winter will start to make its presence felt again. A strong cold front arrives late Monday night with seasonably chilly weather settling in for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. This looks like the beginning of a trend toward colder weather as we begin the month of January. More to come on that!
