A Six-Star afternoon is in store for us today, thanks to a surface ridge of high pressure nearby.

Enjoy these next few days of mild temps in the 60s and 70s, because by the weekend, things start to change. Until then expect sunny skies, light winds, and pleasant temperatures with afternoon highs into the upper 60s to low 70s across northeastern Oklahoma.

What is the forecast like on Thursday?

Highs on Thursday.

The surface ridge will be near or slightly east of the metro later tonight bringing more chilly weather.

Highs the next seven days.

Temps will quickly drop into the 50s this evening and reach the mid to upper 30s Friday morning with some patchy frost. A few valley locations may reach freezing before sunrise Friday morning.

The Tulsa metro will start Friday morning with lows in the upper 30s.

By Friday, the high pressure will shift eastward, and we’ll see a warm-up with highs nearing 70.

High school football forecast.

The pattern will change bringing gusty winds, more clouds, and highs in the lower 70s this weekend before storms return Monday.

Our next big weather-maker is on the horizon as a strong upper-level storm system will approach from the west Saturday night into Sunday, ramping up the winds out of the south at 15 to 35 mph Saturday.

As the system pushes in, thunderstorms will return to Oklahoma, with the best chance for storms likely occurring on Monday.

Rain chances into next week.

The potential for locally heavy rain is possible. A few severe storms may also be possible but will depend upon the quality and depth of the moisture return before the system arrives.

Once the system passes through late Monday night, we’ll feel a noticeable drop in temperatures Tuesday with daytime highs in the upper 50s to near 60.

However, colder weather should arrive mid-week, as a potent upper-level low develops over the Midwest.

This will bring a stretch of much colder air into the eastern U.S., and northern Oklahoma, including the Tulsa metro.

By the middle to end of next week, the data is too inconclusive and inconsistent to offer any confident solutions regarding precipitation probabilities at this point in the forecast cycle.
