Frigid Temperatures Persist Tuesday, Light Snow Expected Later This Week

Another cold morning greets Oklahomans as temperatures hover in the teens, with wind chills dipping into the single digits.

Winds have calmed compared to yesterday, now ranging from 5 to 10 MPH, but the Arctic air continues to dominate, keeping conditions bitterly cold.

As of Tuesday morning, central Oklahoma has endured 46 consecutive hours at or below freezing.

What is the weather like on Tuesday?

Morning temperatures across the metro range from 10 to 15 degrees, with slightly higher readings in parts of southwest Oklahoma, such as Chickasha at 16 degrees.

Wind chills are as low as 0 in some areas, while others are experiencing a bone-chilling -2 wind chill.

Despite the sunshine expected this afternoon, daytime highs will struggle to reach the low 30s, about 15 degrees below the average high of 48 for this time of year.

Another frigid night is in store, with lows dropping into the teens once again—nearly 10 degrees below average.

Tomorrow, we will see slightly warmer conditions, with highs climbing into the low to mid-30s.

What is the weather like this week?

As we look ahead, another storm system is lining up to bring snow later this week, particularly across southern and eastern Oklahoma.

By Thursday, a storm system from the southwest is expected to move into Oklahoma, bringing a chance of light snow.

Snowfall totals will vary, with an inch or less likely in northwest Oklahoma, while areas southeast of I-44 could see totals between 1 and 3 inches.

Some locations in far southeast Oklahoma might even accumulate up to 6 inches of wet, packable snow—perfect for building snowmen and enjoying snowball fights.

While the snow could create picturesque winter scenes, road conditions may become hazardous Thursday night into Friday morning.

By Friday afternoon, temperatures should rise above freezing, helping to alleviate slick roads.

Until then, layer up and stay prepared for continued cold.

The nine-day forecast hints at a gradual warm-up, with highs reaching the 40s and potentially hitting the 50-degree mark by early next week.
