Wildfire risk returns Monday and Tuesday

Wildfire chances return early this week, with Monday bringing high wind speeds and a drop in humidity. Lacey Swope has your latest forecast.

It is sunny, warm and windy on this St. Patrick's Day. Wildfire danger is high to extreme on both Monday and Tuesday.

  1. High temperatures: Near 80°F
  2. Strong winds: Gusts up to 40 mph
  3. Low humidity: 10-20%
  4. Dormant vegetation: Increases risk of rapid fire spread

What is the weather like on Monday?

Highs Monday and Tuesday will be in the upper 70s and low 80s.

Monday forecast.

Wind gusts on Monday are expected to reach 30-50 MPH, with humidity potentially dropping up to 20% from Sunday.

These factors, in conjunction with dormant or dry vegetation, put the state at risk for additional wildfires on Monday.

On St. Patrick's Day and Tuesday, we will see even higher temperatures, with the mid-80s expected in the Oklahoma City metro.

Eventually, after sunset, the winds will back off, and humidity will increase.

Lows Monday night.

Temperatures will be up and down as a cold front arrives Wednesday.

That front will knock highs into the 40s and 50s with a slight chance for a few sprinkles and showers Wednesday night.

Humidity increases Wednesday, but winds really crank up. Winds on Wednesday could gust 45 to 55 mph.

A few gusts to 60 mph are possible. The humidity will be higher on Wednesday as a cold front moves in.

After the recent wildfire outbreak, any hot spots have to be monitored very closely.

Temperatures quickly rebound back into the 60s and 70s to round out the week. Stay safe and have a great day!
