Police Find 100 Pounds Of Marijuana In Suspect’s Vehicle

A burglary suspect left a stash of fresh evidence next to a busy metro interstate last week. Oklahoma City police used a canine and drone to search for the man but never located him.

Police were notified last Friday the suspect was possibly involved in the burglary of a dispensary in Wewoka that morning. Officers found evidence in the suspect’s vehicle that fit the crime.

A traffic stop on Interstate 40 near Anderson Road turned into a large drug bust and manhunt. It all started after an officer attempted to stop the driver speeding through a construction zone. The driver pulled to the shoulder of the interstate and jumped out of the van.

“The subject or the driver, he ran from the van,” said Lt. Frank Herrera, Oklahoma City Police Department.

Police said the suspect ran across all four lanes of traffic into a wooded area.

“We’re using a drone and a canine, and we will see if we can find him,” said Herrera.

Police did not find the suspect but did discover his vehicle stuffed full of large trash bags. Inside the bags was freshly cut marijuana plants with licensing tags.

“I would probably say there’s at least 100 pounds of marijuana, after all this marijuana is processed at least that much,” said Herrera. “We’ll weigh it, we’ll process it and see what we get from there.”

Officers also found three backpacks with tools and equipment typically used in burglaries.

“Inside the van it looked like I call it a jammer. I don’t know the correct terminology, but these jammer devices have a lot of antennas in them, and they’re used to jam frequencies,” said Herrera. “A lot of times a burglar will use this to jam cameras to commit the burglary and leave and there’s not footage of the actual crime.”
