Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason said Deputy Jordan Cannon has been a vital part of their team since 2021.
Jordan was a school resource officer, worked patrol, was part of the crisis intervention team and helped honor fallen officers.
"The best way we can honor her is not to let her death be in vain and remember domestic violence crosses all professions, genders, and races; it is something we all must be aware of," said Amason.
Oklahoma City Police are investigating the incident. They said at around 2 a.m. Wednesday, they were called to a domestic dispute at the couple's home.
"It appears the two were engaged in some type of heated argument, retrieved a handgun, and shot and killed the female," Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Gary Knight said.
Vaughn Cannon was arrested on a murder complaint and taken to the Canadian County Jail.
A deputy with Cleveland County as well, Vaughn, began in 2021 and was terminated Wednesday.
Police said he stayed on the scene as they arrived.
Amason said his next step during the investigation is to reach out to Jordan's father, a former officer himself.
"I would ask them to allow them their time to get through this and deal with their tragedy," said Amason.
Before moving to Cleveland County, Jordan worked for Okarche Police.
They honor her life, posting photos of her reading to students while she served as a school resource officer.
