An Anadarko firefighter has been arrested. He's accused of child sexual abuse.

The Caddo County Sheriff's Office said they were able to make the arrest after a girl came forward. She said the firefighter abused her for years.

David Hadrava is facing six counts of child abuse. Court documents say the girl came forward a month ago. She confided in counselors about the abuse she said she experienced between 2nd and 8th grade.

“We do background checks on every applicant and the background check on him did not reveal anything,” Anadarko Fire Chief Greg Stone said.

Chief Stone said Hadrava has been a firefighter with the Anadarko Fire-EMS department for the past year. He said it means something to wear this uniform.

“Just to protect and serve the citizens the best we can. We strive to provide a high level of patient care as far as ambulance service,” Stone said.

He said Hadrava is on administrative leave and they're conducting their own internal investigation.

“At the time of his arrest he was already on disciplinary leave for some unrelated issues,” Stone said.

A probable cause affidavit said Hadrava confessed to abusing the girl. He told investigators it was like he was acting outside of himself. It goes on to say he knew what he was doing was wrong.

“If there is merit to the charges then administrative action will be taken up to and included termination,” Stone said.

Hadrava sits in jail on a $600,000 bond.

The department is down one man on the street putting them one step further away from being full staff.

“Guys work a lot of unscheduled overtime to take up the slack we also have guys in school constantly. We're training constantly," Stone said.

Stone said his plate is full between working to find great employees along with conducting this internal investigation.

“It takes time away from other things that need to be done, but it is a process that needs to be done so we'll take care of it,” Stone said.

Hadrava's preliminary hearing is set for November 23rd
