An Oklahoma City-based organization dedicated to improving quality of life for transplant recipients has been meeting with leaders in Washington to discuss how insurance affects the transplant process.
Members of the Transplant Recipients International Organization said they are seeking the inclusion of a gene marker blood test in regards to transplant testing.
Lorrinda Gray-Davis, president of TRIO, said the test is not covered by insurance, affecting patients of all ages.
Davis said the group met with 57 congressional officials and had 14 signatures sent in a letter to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Davis also said the goal is to make sure insurance companies include gene maker testing in all insurance policies.
TRIO will also be hosting their golf tournament in October at the Oak Tree Country Club in Edmond to help raise money for facility to house transplant patients traveling to Oklahoma for surgery.
