Oklahoma State leaned on a strong second half to pull away from the Arizona State Sun Devils, 27-15, Saturday night in Tempe, Arizona.
The Cowboys (2-0) won their 9th straight non-conference road game, and did so with three quarterbacks.
Alan Bowman started the game and ended the night with 113 yards on 11 of 16 passing. Gunnar Gundy played much of the second and third quarter and went five of seven for 32 yards and a score. But it was Garret Rangel playing the finisher this week, going six of nine for 46 yards and a score.
After falling behind 7-0 and 15-7, Oklahoma State dominated this game in the second half.
Gundy hit De'Zhaun Stribling for a 3-yard score with 9:08 left to play in the third quarter to put OSU up 17-15.
After a field goal gave the Pokes a 20-15 lead, Rangel hit Brennan Presley for a 16-yard score to make the final tally 27-15.
The final team stats were pretty even with the Cowboys amassing 304 total yards to Arizona State's 277. But Sun Devils quarterback Jaden Rashada never looked comfortable -- and the Pokes were formidable against the Sun Devils run game in short yardage.
With the Sun Devils moving to the Big 12, this Cowboys-Devils tilt will soon be a conference game.
However, before Coach Mike Gundy's team starts the Big 12 Conference slate this year, his Cowboys club has one more non-conference opponent. OSU will take on the South Alabama Jaguars next Saturday at 6 p.m. from Stillwater.
