They’re four best friends from Edmond Oklahoma, and if ever there was a television show created for these guys it would have to be CBS’s show Buddy Games.
“We grew up from like the beginning stages of middle school,” said Justin Palmer a member of team OK.
Even before the show the four friends Justin Palmer, Yue Pun Szeto, Stephen Craig, and James Brian “Huddy” Hudson had their own version of crazy games.
“We used to have what we called the man Olympics, and we did that for like three or four years in a row,” said Stephen Craig.
“That’s why the Buddy Games were so perfect because we literally have done this stuff on a smaller scale with a bigger group,” said Palmer.
So, it wasn’t a big surprise when “Huddy”, who now lives in South Carolina, called them with the news.
“He said, I signed us up for something, there are going to call you, and I was like Ok, and he goes, just roll with it,” said Craig.
The friends were signed up without their knowledge.
“He’s kind of our wild card friend, he’ll kind of just jump at anything, quickly, and he said he signed us up for a show, and we were like ok. Didn’t think twice about it,” said Palmer.
As the screening process continued the guys started realizing this was real.
“The process kind of kept going and it was just like, wow, this is a realistic chance. And that’s when I decided to tell my wife, and I was like, hey, I probably should tell you about this now,” said Palmer.
Then they got the call that they would be on the first season of the CBS show, Buddy Games.
They were given two-day notice to be packed and ready to go to spend at least a month in Columbia South America. They guys had no idea of what to expect, but learned quickly upon arriving.
“You know mud, electricity, swimming rowing,” said Palmer.
“It was intense, you’ll see it,” said Craig.
But the challenges and the time brought the guys closer together.
“We clicked, compared to a lot of the other teams, yeah, you’ll see the drama,” said Szeto.
The guys admit it was tough being away from their families, but that South Carolina friend is ready to do it again.
“He’s signed us up for three other things already,” said Craig.
“He’s trying to ride this wave as much as he can, I guess,” said Szeto.
The winners of the competition receive two hundred thousand dollars, of course they can’t say if they won the competition or not. The show airs every Thursday night at eight, on CBS.
