A man was arrested after he was found in possession of a box that contained a woman’s ashes, according to Moore Police Department.
According to police, the box of ashes was one of several items stolen from an apartment.
Moore Police responded to Nottingham Square Apartments in Moore Monday, after two women came home to their apartment and found it burglarized. One of them made a heartbreaking discovery, her roommate's keepsake was gone.
Victim 1: "They took your mom's ashes."
Victim 2: "They took my mom's ashes! Bro! They took my mom's ashes!"
The ashes were that of Amanda Miller, an Oklahoma City woman who was found murdered in her boyfriend's home in March.
"She just wanted to get back her mother's ashes. She’s been through a lot," said Moore Police Lt. Wes Yost.
Police realized the burglar entered the apartment through an unlocked window, and exited out the front door.
Victim 1: "They came through that window [...] it was like it's not even locked, what the hell?"
Despite losing everything, Amanda Miller's daughter collected and circulated surveillance photo of a man later identified as Eric Brown. Brown was confronted by police.
Brown: "I walked around here looking through all the dumpsters to help the lady find it because that's super messed up, so boom I found it."
Police said Brown and another woman seen were living in an SUV, and claimed another man had given them the box of ashes that they planned to return. Police said they found it packed away in their vehicle.
Brown: " I knew it was in there, but was going to take it back to the girl."
Brown was arrested on suspicion of concealing stolen property and possession of drugs. The burglary remains under investigation.
