The State Fair is back open on Sunday following what police are calling an "isolated incident" at the fairgrounds on Saturday. Business went as usual but security was a top priority.
Fairgoers shared their thoughts with News 9 before they walked in the gate on the final day of the 2023 fair.
"It's just one of those things that's going on in our society today," said fairgoer Leesa Lacey. "I just don't think that means that everyone is unsafe because that one thing happened."
Police gave visitors the green light on Sunday after determining the incident was isolated and not an active shooter situation.
Lacey is a regular fair attendee who says the circumstance is an unfortunate reality.
"We just kinda had to go 'You know, it happened.' It happens everywhere we can't just stop living our lives and doing the things we do," Lacey said.
Scott Munz with the Oklahoma State Fair announced their effort to prioritize security after the shooting.
"We'll just be a little more diligent, maybe, but we do feel that we have a lot of safety protocols in place. Safety and security is priority number one," Munz said.
How the weapon got on the fairgrounds is still under investigation.
Leesa hopes this is a wake-up call.
"Hopefully now people will be more away," she said.
On top of security measures at the gates, a curfew for unaccompanied minors was issued for the last day of the fair.
