This is Homecoming Week for Wynnewood Public Schools. The district considered calling off the celebration due to the ongoing manhunt, but decided it could be good for the community to come together.

“It has been a crazy week,” Lina Tevis said.

“We've got a lot of things that are in motion, a lot of things that are planned,” Garvin County Sheriff Jim Mullett said.

The town of Wynnewood is on edge.

“I called my daughter and said lock your doors. I called my mom, she lives in Elmore, I said lock your doors,” Tevis said.

Lina Tevis said it's scary, but she's starting to breathe a sigh of relief.

It's homecoming week for Wynnewood, with a parade in the center of town.

“We're not letting what's going on here deter us from our traditions,” Byron Mooney said.

Superintendent Byron Mooney said their motto is APT.

“Always protect the tribe. That's about our community, us coming together, we're protecting each other and always watching out for each other,” Mooney said.

Mooney thought about canceling homecoming plans, but said his community needs this.

“We can't live in fear our whole life,” Mooney said.

He believes this week is still about the students and alumni.

“If that guy is in the area, they'd have him by now,” Mooney said.

School Resource Officer Josh Moore said safety is a priority.

“We monitored the situation closely,” Moore said.

They have extra security on hand.

“We've been in contact with other law enforcement agencies, in constant contact with our school board and other powers that be,” Moore said.

“We were hoping everything would get back to normal, but we made the best of it,” Tevis said.

Wynnewood Public Schools said it's paying close attention to this manhunt. District leaders said they'll always operate on a soft lockdown, but they'll continue to have their guard up.
