The head of the United Auto Workers Strike just announced a new approach, even though their current tactics are already fascinating.
UCO professor Hugo DeCampos says they have been targeting certain plants. This week, 8,700 workers walked out of the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant.
‘It has allowed the UAW to save some of their money into their coffers because they are the ones paying union workers on strike,” DeCampos said.
The Big 3 automakers, General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, are at the center of the controversy. UAW says that they have seen their standard of living decline.
Professor Decampos, who worked in the industry for ten years and here at General Motors in the metro, says during his time it was a completely different story.
“Some of them were teachers before because the auto industry paid so well they changed their careers to work at General Motors,” said DeCampos.
In early September, there were 2 million cars in lots representing all companies selling in North America.
That represents a month and a half worth of inventory. Professor DeCampos says he doesn’t expect the strike to last much longer than that, as consumers will start turning to others.
