Family and friends of 24-year-old Charles Rogers are remembering his life after he was murdered on Oct. 20 near Earlsboro.
Investigators said 27-year-old Felipe Reyes Wright Jr. is accused of attacking and killing Rogers with an axe. Rogers was house sitting for an elderly family friend at the house next to where Wright resided.
Officials said Wright was likely under the influence of drugs when he killed Rogers. Investigators also said the two did not know each other previously, and it's still unknown why Wright killed Rogers.
Then, Wright called law enforcement an hour later, confessed, and turned himself in.
But Rogers' death has left a profound impact on those who knew him best.
"I was privileged to be his mom," said Tricia Stanich. "I’m glad God gave me that, and he gave me 24 years to be his mom."
Rogers was described as compassionate and intelligent. Many of his family members attributed their own best qualities back to Rogers.
“I want to try to be more like him," his brother, Chance Hardy, said. "It’s not right.”
Now, his family is preparing to lay him to rest. The family said people interested in sending a card or donation can send it to the Corbett Funeral Home in Oklahoma City.
“If anybody deserves a long life, it was him," his mother said. "He was the best man I have ever known.”
