A viewer asked what to do when they experience tightness in their legs and feet.

Dr. Lacey Anderson explains causes, symptoms and solutions in Thursday's Daily Dose.

It sounds like this viewer may have some possible swelling in their feet and legs. This can cause them to feel tight and uncomfortable.

Mild leg swelling can happen from eating a lot of salt or taking certain medications. Anti-inflammatory medications can often cause leg swelling but it may be worth checking any supplements or medications you’re taking to see if swelling might be a side effect. If a medication is the cause, Dr. Anderson recommends stopping that medication to see if symptoms improve.

Sometimes people have a sensation of tightness or numbness in the legs that isn’t related to swelling. Peripheral neuropathy is a condition where the nerves of the hands and feet can cause numbness, tingling or burning-type pain. If peripheral neuropathy is the cause of your symptoms, there are medications that can help.

If swelling is the cause of symptoms, and you can’t find a medication that is causing swelling, there are medications that can help. Hydrochlorothiazide and furosemide are diuretic medications to help improve swelling.

Make sure to consult a doctor for persistent swelling, as it can be caused by heart failure.
