An Oklahoma City motel had until October 27 to complete demands from the city, or risk being shut down.
The Plaza Inn, which was recently the subject of a city lawsuit had until today to meet the terms of the agreement which included installing more than 2-dozen surveillance cameras and having two armed security guards on-site at all times.
Today, a chain link fence was put around the property. The lights were off and the sign was taken down.
City leaders wanted Plaza Inn to shut down because of crime rates at the motel, but they gave owners a chance to make changes first.
Court filings call the Plaza Inn ‘one of the most dangerous places in Oklahoma City.’ Oklahoma City police received calls to this address hundreds of times, more than 700 in the last two years.
Oklahoma City filed a lawsuit against the Plaza Inn earlier this year asking a judge to declare the motel a nuisance. Last Friday, Judge Don Andrews did just that.
A consent decree was filed that same day. It said, ‘the court finds that, based on the evidence, the Plaza Inn is a public nuisance due to the violent criminal activity on the property that continues unabated.’
