A Guthrie mother pulls her 13-year-old daughter from school after recordings reveal verbal abuse which they say is by one of her teachers. The family tells us they believe the abuse escalated from a social media post questioning the teaching methods.

“I was really scared my hands were shaking my heart was beating really fast,” said Preslea Socash. These are the reactions 13-year-old Preslie Socash said she felt while recording her math teacher at Guthrie Upper Elementary School.

“You’re an evil conniving little girl, now you can go home and cry to your mama I don’t care,” the teacher said on the recording.

Socash said her mother didn’t believe it was happening and asked her daughter to record it. So, she did.

“You’re messing with the wrong person I guarantee it. In the long run, I’m going to be all right, you’re not,” you can hear the teacher say.

Preslea’s family said they couldn’t believe what they heard. “Instantly furious,” said Clint Hahn, Preslea’s grandfather. “I don’t appreciate people treating my grandkids or my kids in a manner that’s not professional.”

Hahn says he believes the verbal abuse escalated after the teacher learned her mother was questioning his teaching methods on Next Door. “If nothing else, if he couldn’t handle his temper or whatever he could have left the classroom or let the children leave the classroom until things calm down or go get help,” Hahn added.

The family learned this isn’t the first time the teacher has been reported. Jesse Parmer was a substitute teacher and says she reported several similar issues with the teacher and doesn't understand why Preslea was a target. “She’s a really good kid,” Parmer said. “I’ve known her for two years, never caused me any issues, never loud in class and never talked back, never had an attitude.”

Parmer said she was fired after speaking publicly about the alleged abuse. “They’re not my students but they’re my students when I’m in that classroom,” she said. “I’ll go on the news I’ll tell everybody if that’s what I need to do.”

The family said the principal moved Preslea out of the teacher's classroom and the teacher did issue an apology, which Preslea recorded.

“Everything I said in the classroom earlier I meant and I think it’s true, however I want to apologize for doing it in the class because that was the wrong place to do it so going forward I will do better about that and also not take out on you the things that your mom does because it’s not your fault even though you’re the cause of all of it it’s not your fault for her actions,” he said on the recording.

However, the apology isn’t enough and for now, the family plans for Preslea to be homeschooled.

“I don’t want her back in school when that teacher is there, ever,” Hahn said.

News 9 reached out to the superintendent, and he said in an email that he is unable to comment on any ongoing personnel matters. We also contacted the teacher, and he did not respond to our request for a comment.
