The search for a man accused of making a threat to a school in Maine- leads to an arrest more than a thousand miles away in the OKC metro.
It comes nearly a week after 18 people died in a mass shooting in the town of Lewiston.
Oklahoma City police said they got a call from a police department in Maine saying there was a man threatening their community. The town has already been on edge.
A Facebook post sparked fear and outrage in the Fairfield, Maine community. Court documents said Edward Dawe made posts about school shootings.
An arrest warrant said he commented on Facebook in reference to the recent Maine mass shooting suspect saying, ‘I heard he has an accomplice still on the loose who is plotting to attack Lawrence High School.’
“We don't believe it's an imminent threat, but we do want to take the time to make sure we cover our bases and make sure that we do thoroughly investigate,” Casey Dugas with Fairfield Police Department said.
The area school district called off classes Monday.
“Well, people take threats seriously, especially in this day and time. Anytime you're talking about a mass shooting especially when it comes right on the heels of one that just took place that killed so many people obviously that's going to get the attention of the public,” Msgt. Gary Knight with Oklahoma City Police Department said.
Last Wednesday, 18 people were killed in Lewiston, Maine. The mass shooter was found dead Friday. This all happened about an hour away from where this school threat was made. Court documents show Dawe went to high school in Fairfield.
“People were calling the police there based on threats that were being made on Facebook about schools in the state of Maine,” Msgt. Knight said.
Dawe's arrest warrant said police tracked him to an apartment in South Oklahoma City.
Dawe is in the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a million-dollar bond. A court filing said he's expected to be charged with making a terrorism hoax and violation of the Computer Crimes Act.
