Bedlam Memories: Dean Blevins And John Holcomb Share Memorable Moments

No one knows more about the Sooners and the Cowboys than News 9's Sports Director Dean Blevins and his Blitz co-anchor and News On 6 Sports Director John Holcomb. Between them, they have nearly 80 years of Bedlam memories.

With the series coming to a close Saturday, Dean and John share which Bedlam moments they remember most.

1998 Bedlam

Dean Blevins: "The 1988 Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State game in Stillwater was No. 1. But that 1988 game was special because you had a Heisman Trophy winner in Barry Sanders going up against a redshirt freshman... But it was a terrific football game. Tons on the line [...] But then you had Mike Gundy as a player and Barry Switzer in his final Bedlam game, and it was a game that came down to the last play. A marvelously played football game, and in the end, Oklahoma State had a chance to win the game. Mike Gundy located an open Brent Parker in the back of the endzone and the rest is history as Mike's ball was on target.. but the catch was dropped, and as so many in this series have been Oklahoma gets out of Stillwater with a win."

2011 Bedlam

John Holcomb: "The next real big one was the big one as far as OSU is concerned was 2011 [with] Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon. And the Cowboy defense that year, maybe giving up yards but amassing turnovers better than anybody in the country. I think they ended up with 44 turnovers forced that season. In that game, they were able to turn over Landry Jones and Oklahoma's offense and the game got out of control. Cowboys took advantage of those mistakes and on one of them the ball I think Jones ended up scoring a touchdown, but [...] it ends up in his hands. Cowboys win the big Bowl championship that night and are able to celebrate with the trophy in the locker room and a fan store on the field and the place was just absolutely electric."

2013 Bedlam

Dean Blevins: "The 2013 game has to be in the mix. It's not like these were national championship games, although OSU was playing to win its second Big 12 Championship in three years [...] and they should have won. But like so many up in Stillwater, it didn't unfold that way although it looked like it. Most of the night, Oklahoma played three quarterbacks and Trevor Knight, Kendal Thompson, and Blake Bell; Those guys starred for Oklahoma, but Oklahoma State was extremely talented looking to win that Big 12 Championship. In the end, Blake Bell, who really was not as much of a thrower coming out of high school, even though he was a five-star quarterback recruit [...] he threw some awesome passes. And one of them goes to Jalen Saunders, late in that ballgame, in the corner of the right endzone and it went for a touchdown pass. And I can just remember that being a rare time that Oklahoma spoiled Oklahoma State's run for glory, whereas the Cowboys had done it to OU in 2001 and some other years. It was a night that Bedlam fans will never forget."

2014 Bedlam

John Holcomb: "You go to 2014 in the game in Norman, and the way that season had developed for OSU anyway was kind of a roller coaster. And they get to Norman, and they're still not bowl-eligible. They have to beat Oklahoma to even get to six wins to become bowl-eligible. And you're just thinking, 'Well, you just hope you can hang on in this case.' And they did more than hang on. They played inspired football as is the norm in a rivalry game a lot of times. And it came down to a late fourth quarter. And Oklahoma was up by seven. Cowboys get a stop and they force a punt. And there's a penalty on OSU I think if I remember right. And then Bob Stoops decides to punt again. And this time the punter directionally speaking missed the direction where the coverage was really going to go down the field. But Tyreek Hill didn't miss catching it. And then [he] raced up the sideline. That's when Dave's famous call there goes, 'There goes the cheetah' and people thought that that was the first time that Dave said, 'There goes the cheetah.' He actually had called in that earlier that season in a game with Iowa State, but this is the one everyone remembers. And Tyreek scores game goes over time. And then OSU has momentum they get a stop and they kick a game-winning field goal, 38-35, and all of a sudden they're bowl-eligible."
