Edmond Public Schools is offering parents a new resource to teach them about the social media their children are using.
Families will now be able to educate themselves on all the social media platforms through the online website called SMART SOCIAL. Superintendent for Edmond Public Schools, Angela Grunewald says Smart Social will benefit parents who have a lot of questions when it comes to their kid's social media use and will help them keep up with the latest trends.
"We know that social media plays a big role in our student's lives and we see the positives and the negatives of that," said Grunewald.
She says Smartsocial has over 100 videos that explain how the apps and digital trends work. The website also provides a rating system so they know which apps are the most popular. The goal is to inform parents so they can be aware of what their children are doing on their phones and computers.
"They can find out the pros and cons of those apps. If your child has this on their phone what dangers do they need to watch out for, and what hidden things can be in this app? And it just really educates parents about the apps that can be in their children's phones," said Grunewald.
Grunewald says parents should have received a link in their recent newsletters, the first year is free and optional for all EPS families.
