Dr. Lacey Anderson is providing information about microneedling in Tuesday’s Daily Dose.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin. Doctors use tiny needles to make small holes in the top layer of your skin with a device similar to a tattoo gun.
The damage stimulates your skin’s healing process causing it to produce collagen and elastin which help keep the skin looking firm and smooth. This procedure is usually done on the face to help with damaged or aging skin but can be done on other areas of the body as well.
It may take multiple treatments to get your desired results, so the results won’t be immediate like with dermal fillers, but the results may last longer. This procedure can improve fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and melasma, acne scarring, enlarged pores, and stretch marks.
You shouldn’t have microneedling over an acne outbreak area to avoid spreading bacteria to other areas of the skin. If you take aspirin or a blood thinner, you will also need to hold this for a few days prior to your procedure to avoid bleeding.
The cost in this area is $200 - $300 per session.
