Oklahoma City Man Accused Of Calling 911 To Threaten To Kill People

Oklahoma City Police said they arrested a man accused of calling 911 numerous times to threaten to kill people and claiming he wanted to target police officers and Marines.

Police said they arrested 25-year-old Logan Howland on Oct. 30 on complaints of acts of terrorism and threatening to perform acts of violence.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Howland had called 911 over two days in late October to make threats of violence.

"The police 911 system began getting flooded with calls from a certain person indicating that he wanted to kill people. He was going to shoot people and that he was going to harm police officers as well," said MSgt. Gary Knight, Assistant Public Information Officer at the Oklahoma City Police Department. "He would call, hang up, call, hang up."

An officer then called Howland, who told the officer that "he wanted the police to kill him," the affidavit stated. Howland also claimed "he wanted to kill people so the police would get the message," the document added.

Howland told the officer he would go to the Marine Corps recruitment center on Northwest Expressway to kill people, but did not say when or how, the affidavit said. When the officer asked Howland if he had a weapon, the suspect hung up the phone, according to the affidavit.

"That's a threat we take very seriously anytime somebody does that," said Knight. "Ultimately, we were able to locate him fairly quickly, and placed him into custody."

The affidavit said a sergeant at the Marine Corps recruitment center told police that Howland had previously tried to enlist, but was disqualified. In light of the alleged threats, the Marine Corps temporarily closed the recruiting center as a precaution, the document said.

News 9 called the recruitment center to ask for comment. Someone told News 9 he would pass along the message. As of Tuesday evening, no one had called back.

News 9 also called the Howland's phone, but no one picked up.

"This person has some type of history with law enforcement in the past of committing similar acts," Knight added.
