A social justice group in Enid is pushing for a recall election for the Ward One commissioner seat. Judd Blevins was elected to that office in February. However, the group says his alleged ties to Neo-Nazism and white supremacist groups is concerning.
“I can’t believe this is real, I can’t believe this is happening at Enid,” said Kristi Balden, chair of the Enid Social Justice Committee.
Balden says Blevins has been given multiple opportunities to respond to his connection to hate groups and now wants to educate voters on the matter.
“My personal opinion is that nazis shouldn’t be making public policy in the United States,” she said.
She said the committee has proof of his alleged past antisemitic behavior. “The evidence is overwhelming,’ she said.
The evidence includes photographs published by the Right Wing Watch, showing Blevins participating in the Unite the Right Rally, a white supremacist rally that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017.
“There were photos of him participating in that, carrying a tiki torch, being with the crowd, carrying the torches, chanting “
‘Jews will not replace us,’ said Fr. James Neal, with the ESJC.
Neal also says they have acquired around 1,100 posts from Discord, a secured chat room. The posts were leaked by independent watchdog Unicorn Riot, according to Neal.
“It needs to be brought before the people and the people need to hear the post that were attributed to him,” said Neal. “He is saying Adolph Hitler is the model for how we should run our country.”
Neal said Blevins also allegedly recruited Oklahomans for the neo-Nazi group called Identity Evropa.
News 9 left a message for Blevins and even went to his business to give him an opportunity to respond to the allegations against him but didn't hear back. Meanwhile, the group is moving forward with their ‘Hate Has No Home Here’ campaign and laid out the evidence at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
“We would like to get Judd recalled, get the recall petition filed, and give voters of Ward 1 a chance to choose again after they’ve become educated.
The committee is working to get at least 234 signatures on a petition before they can file for a recall election.
Blevins told the crowd at the council meeting tonight that he will defend the job he's done and will let the voters decide.
