A parent shared disturbing details of an alleged sexual assault on a Putnam City school playground. The district confirmed on Wednesday the case involving two elementary-age students was under investigation.

The six-year-old victim’s mother told News 9 that the principal of Apollo Elementary told her there were five teachers on recess duty Tuesday afternoon. She said none of them witnessed the alleged sexual assault.

The mother described alleged disturbing events.

“Like my mind is baffled,” said C.L., the victim’s mother. “How could this happen at school?”

The girl told her parents her bottom hurt, and from there, they learned the disturbing details.

“She started to tell her father that another child pulled her underwear, her pants, and underwear down and stuck her finger like this in her butt,” said the mother.

The child’s mother was upset the alleged incident involving another female student went unnoticed by adults.

“It’s somebody else’s child’s safety that you’re putting on the line if you don’t really want to be there,” said the mother.

The victim's parents contacted the Bethany Police Department and made a report. The child was also taken to the hospital for an examination. Bethany Police confirmed they turned the case over to Putnam City School District Campus Police for investigation.

The district sent a statement saying:

“This morning, Putnam City Schools Administration and the Putnam City Campus Police Department were made aware of a situation involving two minor-age students at Apollo Elementary. Due to the nature of the situation and the age of the students, no further details can be provided. However, we want to affirm that all incidents and reports are taken seriously. Our School and District Administrators along with the Campus Police Department are thoroughly investigating the situation and procedures will be followed per District Policy.”

The girl’s mother does not want her daughter to return to school as long as the other student is there.

“What’s going on in her house for her to bring it to school to attack somebody else with it,” said the mother.

A district official said a Title IX investigator was also looking into the allegations.
