This Saturday is Veterans Day, marking the celebration of those who have served our country and their families. The Red Cross offers resources to veterans, not just on Veterans Day, but everyday.
“Each year we assist over 240,000 veterans and military families,” Amanda English with the Red Cross said.
The Red Cross offers free resiliency workshops.
“Resiliency is a series of workshops that are taught by licensed mental health professionals, and it connects service members or veterans that are dealing with military specific issues, and helps them cope with those challenges in that stress,” English said.
The Red Cross also helps homeless veterans get basic necessities.
“Clothing, housing, those sorts of things. We provide all of those connections,” English said.
There are also VA clinics, military treatment facilities, therapy, caregivers for the injured, online and in-person peer support, and more.
“One of the most important things is our hero care network,” English said. “It connects veterans and family members of the military and their caregivers to assistance for emergency communications, critical community cases, which would be like food shortage or clothing or housing, and also our financial assistance. It connects them to all of that, it's available on the Google or App Store, or you can text get hero care at 90999.”
