Dr. Lacey Anderson is providing information about chemical peels in Thursday’s Daily Dose.

A chemical peel uses a chemical solution such as glycolic acid to remove the top layers of skin, revealing youthful skin underneath with fewer lines and wrinkles.

Chemical peels improve the tone and texture of your skin and are most commonly performed on the face, neck, or hands. They can help with fine lines and mild scarring, dark spots on the skin, precancerous spots called Actinic keratoses, rough patches, dull skin and melasma.

Chemical peels are generally safe for all skin types, but those with darker skin can sometimes get dark spots after treatment, called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Your doctor can give the best advice for you, depending on your skin type.

You will need to stay out of the sun afterward to avoid sunburn and wear sunblock daily.
