Ahead of World Kindness Day this week, some folks got a sweet surprise at their door: free donuts.

One Edmond family is spreading kindness to keep their son's legacy alive. They delivered over 200 boxes of free donuts to strangers all over the metro, all in memory of their son.

“They get an entire box and we don’t want anything for it,” explained the board president for Keaton's Kindness Foundation, Abbie Conway. The K-Club is the organization behind the random acts of kindness.

“Their instructions are just deliver them to whoever and say happy world kindness day,” Holly Barrón, executive director for Keaton's Kindness Foundation, and mother to Keaton Barrón.

“Keaton was diagnosed with leukemia when he was two and a half, so he spent a lot of time in the hospital,” Barrón explained.

It was during his treatments Keaton came up with the K-Club to help spread kindness at OU Children's Hospital.

“Oh gosh, he was the best kid you could imagine,” she said. “He never complained, he was always worried about how everybody else was feeling, how the other kids were doing, how his Dad and I were doing.”

Keaton passed away in May of 2018.

“So we took his kindness club and turned it into a nonprofit that helps kids fighting cancer,” Barrón said.

Keaton’s kindness club still makes people smile today.

“That’s what Keaton would have wanted because he was so caring and always worried about everybody else so this gives us the chance to keep his legacy alive,” she added.

Keaton's kindness came in the form of a sweet treat and a sweet reminder to go with it on Saturday.

“Happy World Kindness Day!” exclaimed Keaton’s brothers as they knocked on doors to deliver donuts throughout their neighborhoods.

“It’s just something to show that we’re thinking about other people and that we care about you can want to put a smile on your face,” Conway said. “Just to do something kind.”
