Man Dies In Crash After Fleeing Deputy During Pursuit

A man is dead after leading deputies on a high-speed chase, ending in a crash on Lake Hefner Parkway, authorities say.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office says a deputy tried to perform a traffic stop near 178th St. and MacArthur Boulevard in Edmond around 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Video showed heavy police activity in the southbound lanes of Lake Hefner Parkway in the immediate minutes after the deadly pursuit.

The car caught fire when it crashed and it's unclear how high the speeds were during the pursuit.

Officials have not released the man's identity, but a spokesperson for the sheriff's office says he is suspected of being involved in a burglary that occurred on Saturday.

Investigators have not yet revealed the details behind that burglary.

Officials told News 9 that he had a prior criminal history.
