A 16-year-old boy is dead following a shooting Monday night in Bartlesville, police say.
The Bartlesville Police Department said shooting calls were reported around 9:40 p.m. near Highway 60 and Frank Phillips Boulevard.
After arriving at the scene, officers found the teenager dead. His name has not been released.
Several patrol officers responded to the scene overnight in a visible area right off the highway, but police say it is unclear where the teenager was going and if anyone else was with him.
Witnesses reported there was a vehicle that drove away from the scene after shots were fired, police said.
Police said a suspect is in custody, but they will not be releasing any names until they're able to ensure the suspect is involved.
Officers believe it might have been a dispute but say this is an active investigation.
“We don’t work homicides on a regular basis. We’ve had a couple in the past year and so it’s not very common. The good thing about Bartlesville is that we’re a tight-knit community,” said Lt. Chris Neal with Bartlesville Police.
There are several businesses in the area and police say they will begin to look at surveillance video. Police say there is no threat to the public and that this was an isolated situation.
