Two men in Enid have been arrested and a third is wanted by police on suspicion of abusing vulnerable patients where they worked.
Jonathan Martinez and Jhon Alan Nieto were arrested on felony charges of abuse by a caretaker. Police are trying to find Jonathan Orozco, who is wanted on similar charges.
According to Enid Police, an investigation began in June after Enid Police got information from a former employee who reported abuse of clients involving multiple caregivers at The Robert M. Greer Center.
The Center is a treatment facility for adults who are dually diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and co-occurring mental illness and/or severe behavioral challenges.
Enid Police say the suspects choked victims until they passed out, then beat them until they woke up.
The group is also accused of waterboarding the victims in showers.
Oklahoma Human Services gave a statement to News 9 saying:
“The allegations against personnel at the Robert M. Greer Center are heinous, especially in light of the vulnerable population being housed at the facility. Immediately upon learning of the allegations, Oklahoma Human Services began cooperating with law enforcement and has maintained regular contact with them since the early stages of the investigation. Additionally, we are halting any new admissions and have reached out to the operators of the Greer Center to ensure appropriate steps are being taken to cooperate in any investigation and, more importantly, ensure the ongoing safety of all residents under the facility’s care.
Oklahoma Human Services is committed to a complete investigation of this facility, the remaining staff, and its management, including continued efforts with law enforcement. We are taking steps to ensure each resident’s loved ones are aware of this situation.”
Oklahoma Sen. Paul Rosino, who serves as the chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, released a statement Thursday saying,
"The allegations of extreme abuse coming from the Robert M. Greer Center in Enid shook me to my core. We have invested so much time, effort, and resources in building a system that provides for a good life for Oklahomans with developmental disabilities. We will not tolerate maltreatment of people. Period.”
We are reaching out to Liberty Healthcare, the facility’s manager.
If you know the whereabouts of Colon Orozco, Enid Police asks you to please message them directly by calling (580) 242-7000 or texting 847411 and entering the keyword EPDTIP.
They are also asking anyone with information about abuse occurring at the Greer Center to contact them and report it.
