The Oklahoma State Chamber of Commerce is fighting a petition that would allow Oklahomans to vote on whether to raise the minimum wage.
State Question 832 would raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2029, and then automatically increase based on federal cost of living rates as they go up.
The Chamber says the state question is unconstitutional. The Chamber also says the proposed raises are "based upon the cost of living rates in cities like New York or San Francisco" and that "those areas are not reflective of the actual cost of living in Oklahoma."
Organizers of the petition, however, argue that Oklahomans are already struggling to get by.
That case now heads to the State Supreme Court.
