Bristow Christmas Tree Farm Celebrates Opening Day

The day after Thanksgiving marks the start of the Christmas season for many in Green Country, which means hundreds of people are heading out to Christmas tree farms to pick out their trees.

The Molly and Socks Christmas Tree Farm in Bristow has already seen dozens of families, including the Kunda family. "We got pictures and we're trying to figure out what tree we're going to get,” said Luveyah Kunda.

"We went to go pick out a Christmas tree and then we got to go on the train,” said Marley Kunda.

Molly and Socks, named after two of the owners’ cows, has been open since 2016.

It was Sherri Hurst’s idea to start growing Christmas trees. "In 2016, I came to my husband and I said, 'hey, you know that hay meadow,' and he said ‘yes,’ and I said, 'let's turn that into a Christmas Tree Farm,”’ said Sherri. “And he kind of looked at me, like 'do what?'"

Sherri says the farm is a happy place for her because she has always loved Christmas.

It also helps her feel closer to her parents, who died the year after the farm was started. "My mom saw the very first 1200 trees that we planted, and she said, 'your daddy would love to be out there trimming those trees and mowing with you,”’ said Sherri.

Her husband David has been at her side through it all and enjoys being able to spend time together at the farm as a family. "My kids live next door, so I have grandkids out here working, so it's kind of a legacy thing,” said David. “I've worked forever in manufacturing, so this is very, very different."

In addition to picking out trees- there are games, a petting zoo, and a gift shop. "Everybody's so happy,” said Sherri. “They thank me for having it and stuff like that and it's like, that makes you feel good. Like you've done something special for someone else with really, just doing something that you love to do."

The Molly and Socks Christmas Tree Farm is open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until December 23rd.
