The responsibility of caring for a baby can be overwhelming. They are the littlest patients and need a lot of attention!
Pediatrician Scott Cyrus joined us Tuesday morning and we took a look at overall safety for babies.
"So we lay them on their backs. If they start to roll over on their own, you don't have to flip them back onto their backs. But the idea is that you want them to have the best sleep and it's back on their backs. And so no pillows, especially no fluffy pillows, toys, stuffed toys, fluffy blankets. And so those are all kind of suffocation issues that we can totally avoid by just using a nice, thin receiving blanket and keeping them wrapped up. Put the cap on," Dr. Cyrus said.
"You have to look at the size, the weight, mainly do it on weight, not length. A lot of people say 'well, they're 22 inches and it only goes to 21,' but they're still underweight. So it's okay to have that car seat. But remember, they're rear facing until they're two. Many people think it's one, but it's rear facing until the age of two. They're in the backseat of cars until the age of 13. So we don't want to put them in the front seat. We actually lost two children to airbag deployment because the children are too small for the airbag and they get hit actually, in the face," Dr. Cyrus said.
