Friends are honoring a Bixby teen who died in a car crash near 171st and Memorial on Jan. 11.

16-year-old Shelby Binney was killed after police said her dad caused a crash with their family inside the SUV and then ran from the scene.

Now, friends are honoring Shelby's memory by fundraising for her family.

People close to the family told News On 6 Shelby's mom and younger siblings are still in the hospital.

Shelby's friends, like Ainsley Young, said they are doing what they can to support the family's long journey ahead.

"I miss her laugh, I miss her warm touch. I miss just her and everything about her,” said Ainsley.

Ainsley said the Bixby community is hurting.

"She's a really wonderful person,” said Ainsley. “She never fails to make anyone smile when they need it. She was such a joy and light into people's lives."

Ainsley and Shelby were classmates at Bixby High School, did cheer together and even lived near each other.

Police said Thursday night, Shelby, her parents and two siblings were on their way home when her dad, Elliott Binney, caused the deadly crash near their house.

"I still can't look over there,” said Ainsley. “It's hard to. It hurts my heart that it was her last moments there."

Shelby's friends are trying to process the tragedy.

"It's going to be hard because I sat by her in a few classes,” said Ainsley. “It's hard to look over and see that empty seat."

Ainsley and other friends started a GoFundMe account for Shelby's mom and siblings, who are still recovering.

"I just want it to be used for whatever the family needs it for,” said Ainsley.

Ainsley has this message for Shelby's loved ones.

"That I'm so, so sorry and that Shelby was an amazing person and that it was such an incredible experience to know Shelby and to know her family," said Ainsley.

A police report said Shelby's parents were arguing before the crash and that Elliott Binney told officers he drank a gulp of vodka while driving.

He ran from the scene and was arrested in Checotah the next day.

He has bonded out of jail. No charges have been filed. The Tulsa County district attorney’s office said it is waiting for the final report to determine charges.
