Crime Stoppers is launching a new program to recognize the work of local first responders.

The purpose of this program is to celebrate, honor, and say thank you to first responders for their service.

Karen Gilbert with Tulsa Crime Stoppers said the program will highlight Tulsa Police officers, sheriff deputies, and firefighters.

Gilbert said this program is an opportunity for people to show support to those who put their lives on the line to protect our community.

Gilbert said they’ve partnered with area businesses to gift the honorees with different items.

Heroes will be announced every month at the Crime Stoppers board meeting.

At the end of the year, Gilbert said they will bring each first responder together at their 'Badges n’ Barbecue' event to be recognized.

“When we call that 911 number, we expect those people to come and help us in our time of need. And once they’ve helped us, you know, most people just don’t have any closure of showing you know, a simple 'thank you' for them to come and help them through that crisis. So this is a great way to show that," Gilbert said.

Anyone can submit a name of a first responder on the Tulsa Crime Stoppers website. The first hero will be announced in a few weeks.
