A man working for Tulsa Public Schools is in custody on Friday accused of child abuse on a special needs student, according to arrest records.

Records show that Nicholas Stowell, a 28-year-old teaching assistant for TPS, was arrested Friday evening on Child Abuse and Resisting Arrest charges.

Stowell allegedly grabbed a 7-year-old student who police said had special needs and dragged him and threw him on a bench. He was also thrown on the ground, according to the police report.

Police say there is a video of the incident but that has not been released.

Tulsa Public Schools shared the following statement with News On 6 Friday night.

Today an incident took place at Tisdale Elementary School. TPS Campus Police and Tulsa Police Department responded immediately. There is nothing we take more seriously than the safety and well-being of our students, and additional counselors will be at the school on Monday to support the school community. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have no other comment at this time.
