When it’s time for Doug Norton’s dogs to release some steam, they come to the dog park.

“I have a German Shepard and a Doberman, and they’re very high energy, and they just love to run and be active,” he said.

Norton says he’s a regular at the Joe Station Dog Park.

“I generally come here 3 to 4 times a week,” he said.

But when he and his dogs tried to come on Monday, they were met with maintenance trucks and a locked gate.

“It was closed yesterday, and they got out here and replaced the fence,” he told another dog owner.

City workers replaced it because of a complaint made to Tulsa Parks on Sunday about a severe injury to a dog from wires sticking out of the fence.

As of Tuesday morning, the city says the fence is fixed, and all trash litter was picked up.

“That would mess a dog up. I remember he got under a fence one time,” said the other dog owner.

The city says they weren't aware of the damaged fence until they got the complaint.

“As long as the city did something about it after something happened, I understand these kinds of things can happen, personally,” said Norton.

And as the park welcomes back its visitors, Norton commends the city’s good response to a bad situation.

“That was very quick action on part of the city,” he said.

The city encourages people to report bad park conditions to 311 to avoid another injury like this from happening.
