Congressman Josh Brecheen Holds Town Hall Meeting To Hear Concerns

A town hall meeting with Second District Congressman Josh Brecheen was dominated by concerns about border security and illegal immigration.

A town hall meeting with Second District Congressman Josh Brecheen was dominated by concerns about border security and illegal immigration.

Brecheen opened a series of meetings as a two-week congressional break began.

Constituents asked about spending (Brecheen opposes new spending without offsets to current spending), aid for Ukraine (Brecheen opposed the last aid package), and military aid for Israel (Brecheen supports it but wants an agreement the money will be paid back). But most of the discussion was about migration over the Southern border.

“They know we have historic proportions, and they want answers,” said Brecheen, “They want to know why this administration won't enforce the laws that are on the books.”

Brecheen voted to impeach the Homeland Security Director over the border crisis but didn't support the Lankford compromise bill that would have updated immigration policy.

One man in the audience criticized those decisions, but most seemed to support Brecheen’s positions.

Brecheen is a member of the Freedom Caucus and maintains his support for the re-election of former President Trump. He echoed Trump in calling his ongoing legal cases a “witch hunt” and credited Trump with controlling immigration.

“I think if you compare what happened in 2017, when we had the 40-year low of illegal immigration under President Trump's watch, compared to today, historic highs, it shows you who had a handle on immigration,” said Brecheen.
