'We See An Impact': BAPS Program Helps Students Experiencing Food Insecurity

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. -

A Broken Arrow Public Schools' program in the child nutrition department is working to help students with food insecurity.

The Love Accounts program helps take care of debt that some families have gained over time in order to ease any burdens they may have.

BAPS said 53-percent of its students are eligible for free and reduced meals. However, there are still families who struggle with food insecurity and do not qualify. The school has a program to help those families.

People can anonymously donate a one-time or monthly amount to help out a specific school or student of their choice.

Emily McNally, the Director of Child Nutrition, said this program has been streamlined and is more accessible.

McNally said businesses and student organizations have held fundraisers and are thankful for a donation of any size.

“We see an impact on our students. Because when using the Love Accounts, they have more access to the breakfast and lunch meals, which in return, helps with attendance rates and test scores," McNally said.
