A Tulsa man is going viral on TikTok for a creative costume he made to celebrate the movie "Dune: Part Two," which came out in theaters Friday. His video has more than three million views so far.
Jesse Myer dressed in a special suit and rode a sandworm through AMC Southroads 20 at 41st and Yale.
He said he can’t believe his video has gotten attention from around the world.
On opening night, Myer got the idea to make a sandworm costume.
"It's so ridiculous,” said Myer. “I was just laughing at how funny it would be if I saw that. Maybe if I think it's funny, other people would enjoy it. But I had no idea it would go this viral."
Myer loves science fiction and already had the parts for the suit he’d worn at a convention.
"All I really need to do is build a worm,” said Myer. “How hard can that be? It's a tube. I literally ran to Target and grabbed two of those collapsable kid play tunnel things, tied them, glued them together, wrapped them in fabric, cut out some cardboard teeth, painted it, and called it good."
Myer is no stranger to performing in front of a crowd.
"This definitely isn't new for me,” said Myer. “Growing up, I was a theater kid in high school, and then didn't do theater in college. But to scratch that itch of attention, I was mascot for OU for my time there."
He loves seeing people enjoy the video and costume and hopes it inspires people to go all-out for the movies they’re excited to see.
"Growing up, it was way more common, midnight premieres, doing costumes and whatnot,” said Myer. “It's fun to bring it back. Also, seeing comments like 'cinema is back,' and all this stuff makes it worth it. When I'm passionate about something, it's easy for me to justify going all out for it and getting in suit."
Myer said he plans to go all out for other movies, especially the Tron movie that’s set to be released in 2025.
