'He Knew Exactly What He Was Doing': Tulsa DA Addresses Theft Case Involving Tulsa Restaurant Owner

Tulsa County District Attorney responded to statements made on Tuesday in the case of a Tulsa restaurant owner who pleaded guilty to stealing from Sam's Club.

Talal Alame, the owner of Tally's Cafe, was sentenced to a year of probation on Monday and ordered to pay back Sam's nearly $8,000.

District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler shared security footage from the business that shows Alame walking out with more food than he paid for while using the store's self-checkout app. Kunzweiler disagrees with Alame's attorney that not paying for the items was a simple mistake.

"You can literally watch the video of him walking right past the area where you can individually scan items. He was using what they call the scan and go app..." said Kunzweiler. "I can see how you might miss a scan on one, but you're not gonna miss a scan on four or five other ones. And this wasn't a one-and-done, this was over a period of time. And to somehow suggest that we were picking on this person who made a mistake, as we said yesterday, this wasn't a mistake, this was a crime. He knew exactly what he was doing."

Kunzweiler says Alame chose to plead guilty, which means he admitted to stealing.
