One person is hurt and multiple people are displaced after an apartment building went up in flames Tuesday night near 71st and Sheridan.

Tulsa firefighters said when they arrived just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night, large flames were shooting from the roof.

There were about 50 firefighters on scene and it took about 45 minutes to get the fire out, firefighters said.

Fifteen apartment units were damaged either by the fire itself or from all the smoke.

One resident who lives at the Crossing Apartments described the scene as "organized chaos" as she watched one of the apartment buildings burn.

Heather Mynatt said after she saw the fire, she rushed outside to get her neighbors out.

"Like literally the first thing I told my boyfriend, I grabbed my shoes and said, 'We have to see if they need help.' Because like I said, this is something that I fear for myself and I would want my neighbors to do the same," Mynatt said.

Firefighters said 24 people were displaced and the apartment complex is working with the Red Cross to move people into other units or find somewhere else for them to stay.

One person was injured and transported to the hospital but is expected to be OK.

The cause of this fire is under investigation.
