Over the past three years, legendary Oklahoma Outdoorsman Jimmy Houston has stepped into a new role in life.
The role of a Caregiver - after his wife Chris of more than 60 years had a massive stroke.
News 9's Storme Jones sat down with Moore native Jimmy Houston for a conversation about fish - and faith.
The larger-than-life Oklahoman graced the screens of national television for 47 years.
But a cellphone video filmed three years ago, from the parking lot of OU Health in Oklahoma City broke the heart of the outdoors community.
"My beautiful wife, Chris had a brain aneurysm and a massive stroke and she's not doing well at all. We don't know what's gonna happen. God will either heal her or take her to glory, heaven," said Houston.
Chris, an accomplished angler herself, was the first woman ever inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame.
Through the ups and downs - in sickness and in health - Jimmy says he has leaned on his faith as he serves in the greatest role of his life -- husband. Caring for the woman whom he calls the catch of a lifetime.
Jimmy is a deacon at the local Baptist Church - and two years ago wrote a daily devotional - called "Catch a Better Life"
This year as Jimmy turns 80 - he's scheduled to make 65 appearances at bass pro shops, churches, and fishing conferences across the country all on top of shooting more than 20 episodes of his show for ESPN.
While life has looked different the past three years on Houston's 3700-acre ranch in Southern Oklahoma, Jimmy says he's grateful against all odds to have his sweet Chris by his side.
