A bill failed at the Oklahoma Capitol Tuesday. Senate bill 1907 would have allowed the state to collect tag information for drivers who don’t pay their turnpike fees.
The Department of Public Safety would have been allowed to give the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority vehicle registration information, which would allow them to collect tolls from tribes.
Governor Kevin Stitt criticized those who voted no on the bill and accused the Cherokee Nation of owing the state money.
The author of the bill, Rep. Justin Humphrey, says he would personally help the governor recover the lost revenue and look at inefficiencies in other areas of government.
