April is Autism Acceptance Month, and the annual Piece Walk is working to raise money and spread awareness about autism.
Stacey Weddington with Autism Oklahoma and Alex, a leader in the organization, joined News 9's Southwest Coca-Cola Porch to talk about autism.
“Autism Oklahoma has been around for 22 years and we are not a clinical or therapeutic organization at all. We get to do the fun stuff,” Weddington said. “So what we're really doing is revealing talents and creating opportunities for people on the spectrum to enjoy um in new ways to do what they love.”
Autism Oklahoma’s Piece Walk is coming up.
“The Piece Walk is Oklahoma's largest autism event,” Weddington said. “The day is filled with celebration and joy and laughter and music and food. And we have a resource fair filled with vendors who offer professional services.”
Oklahoma City’s Piece Walk is June 1 at 10 a.m. Tulsa’s Piece Walk is May 18 at 10 a.m.
